Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Programme

The Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Programme caters to a broad spectrum of interests and talents.  Active participation in our CCA Programme provides that all-round development for PL-Lites. Through the CCA of their choice, they discover their interests and talents as they are Equipped, Engaged and are provided with the opportunities to Excel.  The varied and authentic opportunities also nurture the life-long love for the activity. 

Apart from actively participating in CCA, the sustained participation in any CCA provides the progressive development of CCA-specific knowledge, skills, values and attitudes.  With that, PL-Lites learn to practise their school values (HEART), Social Emotional Competencies and 21st Century Competencies and competencies that are specific to and general across each activity. Therefore, the entire process would ultimately nurture every PL-Lite to be a woman of fine character with a passion for life as they excel in the CCA that they have chosen. 

In addition, participation in CCA also promotes social interaction across levels as it is a common space for friendships and social integration amongst students of diverse backgrounds.  Through it, PL-Lites develop a sense of identity and belonging to the school.

The Primary 3 (Semester 2 only), 4, 5 and 6 (Semester 1 only) PL-Lites will participate in one of the following Co-Curricular Activities offered by the school:


*Aesthetics Sports such as Rope Skipping and Performing Arts are the Life-Long Learning Programmes of PLMGS(Primary)

 

Lower Primary pupils can opt to participate in FUN-Sports and PRELUDE-Performing Arts Courses which provide the platform our Primary 1 and 2 pupils to discover their potential and to excel in a field of their interest at an early age.  FUN / PRELUDE courses are as follows:

FAQs – FUN / PRELUDE PROGRAMME for Lower Primary pupils


1.  What do the FUN / PRELUDE Programmes seek to develop in pupils?

·         The Programmes seek to provide the opportunity for the younger PL-Lites to learn the fundamentals of the different FUN-Sports and PRELUDE-Arts and be better equipped before they participate in the respective CCAs at Primary 3.

·         The FUN-Sports Programme includes the opportunity to learn Badminton, Gymnastics and Table Tennis. 

·         The PRELUDE-Arts Programme includes International Dance and String where PL-Lites learn to dance and play the violin, viola, cello or double bass.

 

2.  When are these programmes conducted? 

·         FUN /PRELUDE Programmes are conducted on Thursdays after school.  As participation is optional, PL-Lites who wish to participate in the programme must make their own transport arrangements. 

 

3.    How often is the FUN / Prelude Programme carried out?

·         Each programme is carried out over a span of 6 to 10 weeks.

·         PRELUDE-String Programme which is progressive is carried out over 30 weeks each year for Primary 1 to 3 PL-Lites.

 

4.    How do I register my child for the programme?

·         There are 2 registration exercises per year.  The first is carried out in January for Semester 1 courses.  A second registration in May is carried out for Semester 2 courses.

·         A letter from the school detailing course fee payment and on-line registration details will be given to parents. 

 

5.    Can my child have a change of programme?

·         Course fees are non-transferrable.  Your child is advised to complete the entire programme.  There will be no make-up lessons when your child is absent.

·         Your child can opt for join a different programme at the next registration exercise.



FAQs - CCA PROGRAMME for Upper Primary pupils

 

1.    My child would like to participate in a Competitive Sports or Performing Arts Group. What should she consider before she signs up?

·         Interest and potential aside, it is very important to consider the amount of time your child can commit to her chosen CCA. Training is rigorous. Competitive Sports teams and Performing Arts Groups train or practise the whole year round taking only 2-week breaks during the June and December holidays.  During the school terms, training and practice sessions are at least twice weekly.

·         Every PL-Lite, when making the choice, should seek to have sustained participation.  She must act responsibly, persevere and continue honing her skill to excel rather than change CCA when there are challenges.

·         If you do not want your child to commit her three years to one competitive sport / performing arts group, we would strongly advise you to choose other clubs and recreational sport.

 

2.    My child shows a keen interest in sports but not at a competitive level.  What options are there for her?

·         We would encourage her to opt for the Recreational CCA -‘Sports Club’. Pupils in the Sports Club play 2 sports /games per year. She will get to learn games such as Frisbee, Netball, Floorball, Soccer, Touch Rugby and Basketball.  The sports / games for each cohort may vary each year pending the availability of resources.

 

3.    My child wants to participate in 2 CCAs in the school. Does the school allow for such a choice?

·         Due to time and commitment, it will not be possible for PL-Lites to take part in 2 CCAs.  Moreover, the additional training sessions carried out after school are only for select groups of pupils with the potential to hone skills to a higher level in preparation for competitions.

 

4.    My child takes weekly enrichment lessons outside school. Can she be exempted from the school’s CCA Programme?

·           Every PL-Lite participates in one CCA.  There is no exemption as CCA is conducted within curriculum time. 

 

5.    Will my child be allocated her first choice of CCA? 

·         The school does try to allocate as many pupils as possible to their first choices.

·         We try to deploy as much manpower and other resources as we can to manage the more popular CCAs. However, there is a certain tipping point for each CCA when it gets too big to be effective; hence some measures of control such as quotas are imposed to prevent this from happening.

·         Your child may not get a CCA which is her 1st choice but she would be given one within the choices made.

 

6.    Can my child have a change of CCA? 

·         CCA Option forms are given to all pupils annually. In this exercise, pupils can opt for another CCA. 

·         After the option period, we do not accede to requests for change of CCA unless on medical grounds.
